David Herron, Trumpet, Flugelhorn
A native of Gastonia, North Carolina, David studied music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After college, he played principal trumpet for several stage productions including Evita and Annie. He played lead trumpet for shows featuring Fabian, Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Shirley Jones, Sandy Duncan and Ricky Van Shelton. David has performed with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and in The Carolina Opry Christmas Special for several seasons. He resides in Myrtle Beach.
Chris Connolly, Trombone
Since graduating from the Eastman School of Music in 1988, Chris has performed with such greats as Lou Rawls, Ray Charles, Kenny Rogers, and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and written arrangements for Bernie Williams, Steve Gatlin, Bill Pinkney of the Original Drifters and many others. Chris also appeared in the motion picture “The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” and has recorded a jazz CD entitled Since Last We Met. Chris returned to the Grand Strand after earning his Master’s Degree in jazz composition at William Paterson University in New Jersey and is currently teaching at Coastal Carolina University.
Philip Berg, Saxophone
A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Philip has made Myrtle Beach his home for the past 18 years. He began playing his sax at age 10 and never looked back. His playing career includes orchestral to jazz and everything in between. One of his greatest joys was an accapella recording of “Amazing Grace” in honor of his parents on the alto saxophone that they first purchased for him so many years ago.
Taryn Martin, Dancer
A native of Myrtle Beach, Taryn began dancing at a young age and continued her training across the globe in New York, London, Nashville, and California. Taryn has won multiple titles at competitions and conventions in all styles of dance across the Carolinas. She has also performed with Radio City Christmas Spectacular and Legends in Concert. As a member of The Carolina Opry Christmas Special cast at The Carolina Opry Theater, Taryn feels blessed to perform in her hometown.
Maya The Horse, Sleigh Drawing
Maya is a 21 year old Pinto, owned by Jennifer LeFever, and is entering her ninth season with The Carolina Opry. When Maya is not performing on stage she is a therapy horse for the Fidelis Foundation. The Fidelis Foundation partners with youth, serving agencies and community members to provide Equine Assisted Learning. Maya teaches participants confidence, trust and communication skills.
