A 60-Mile Strip of Surf and Golf

Myrtle Beach claims to be the nation’s golf capital, and given its 123 golf courses, it is hard to dispute the title. The city has just invested $1 billion to improve the roads along the 60-mile-long beach strip, called the Grand Strand, home to most of the hotels and other big attractions catering to the 14 million tourists that pass through each year. The biggest news on the local business scene is a plan by Hard Rock Cafe International to build a 150-acre rock ‘n roll theme park, with a 15,000-seat outdoor theater.
