New shows, updates at Myrtle Beach’s longest-running theater, The Calvin Gilmore Theater
The 2017 season at The Calvin Gilmore Theater once again brings a level of production diversity never before seen in Myrtle Beach. This year marks the 32nd season of award-winning live entertainment in Myrtle Beach, an accolade unmatched by any other live variety show. In addition to the continuance of the popular Myrtle Beach Performing Arts Series, the theater will present 4 different original productions: the classic Carolina Opry (TCO), the Time Warp show, The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, and Thunder and Light starring All That!
More About the The Carolina Opry Show
Though elements in the shows change each year, one element remains constant: the level of world-class talent and production values that visitors have learned to expect on the Calvin Gilmore stage. This season, Gilmore will introduce a new gospel medley, a new 40s medley, and a new classic country medley into their flagship production. The Carolina Opry also welcomes back bluesy vocalist Chasity Croft for her second season alongside the hip-hop clogging group All That!, famous from NBC’s America’s Got Talent, and a cast composed of over 35 of the world’s most award-winning vocalists, musicians, and dancers. Expect new songs, fresh elaborate costumes, and sidesplitting comedy to delight even those guests who have seen the show many times over.
More About the Time Warp Show
Directed by Calvin Gilmore’s son, Jeff Gilmore, this season’s Time Warp is a fast-paced, high-energy show that brings you the best music of the 60s, 70s and 80s, blended with comedy, accompanied by rich multimedia screens, special effects and elaborate costuming—all performed live by the award-winning cast of The Carolina Opry. Expect some major changes in 2017, including a special feature on the music of Woodstock, as we take you on a virtual tour back to the decades that brought us the best in American popular music.
More About the Thunder and Light Show
Returning for its 3rd season, Thunder and Light stars the nationally renowned clogging group All That! combined with a multi-million-dollar laser light show and features the magic of The Wagsters. The show blends exclusive original choreography by All That!, thrilling contemporary music, interviews and background on the group, the same multi-colored 5-laser show that toured with Pink Floyd and Madonna, and some incredible illusions.
Five Irish Tenors, Keillor, Wynonna, Charlie Daniels kick of Myrtle Beach Performing Arts
Gilmore’s new Performing Arts Series, now entering its 3rd season, kicked off the season with a nearly sold out performance by The Five Irish Tenors. Gilmore says, “With its burgeoning local population, we wanted to bring the area something new in entertainment—something that brings popular culture and an intellectual edge to the forefront.” Also scheduled in the series is Garrison Keillor on February 19, Wynonna and the Big Noise on March 12, and the Charlie Daniels Band on March 26. Additional performances are in the works and dates will be announced throughout the year.
